River of Light: Sailboat Lanterns

Monday, January 125:00—8:00 PMHatch Makerspace20 Summer St, Watertown, MA, 02472

Please note: The final product of this class is rather large, about 2 feet long.

Come join us for "River of Light" lantern making, creating large, illuminated boats with ash strips and paper. Participants learn to construct boats using materials like wood strips, tissue paper, and LED lights, to sail through the night air during the parade on January 17 at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. This hands-on process allows the participants to engage in environmental stewardship conversations while creating a beautiful, symbolic piece of illuminated art.

For adults and youth 14+. Children ages 14-17 may attend on their own as long as their parent or legal guardian cosigns Hatch's waiver form in person before the event.

Hatch workshops start on time. If you arrive late, your spot may be given to someone on the waitlist.

River of Light is a celebration of light in winter. Presented by the Public Arts & Culture Committee in partnership with the Watertown Cultural Council, the lantern-making workshops and wintertime parade build community and bring light. The workshops and celebration are supported by the Public Arts & Culture Committee, the Mass Cultural Council, and the Watertown Cultural Council.
