Historic Watertown Postcards
Tuesday, December 37:00—8:00 PMWatertown Savings Bank Room (1st floor)Watertown Free Public Library123 Main St, Watertown, MA, 02472
Join Watertown resident and deltiologist Kathy Alpert as she shares postcard views and insights into Watertown’s history. Some of the postcards bear interesting postmarks and cryptic messages, as well as images of Watertown 100 years ago. In addition to a slide presentation, Kathy will bring an array of postcards on different topics. Everyone will leave with an original vintage postcard of their choice.
Last year, Kathy and other postcard enthusiasts teamed with the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in Weston to create the New England Postcard Club, a marketplace for postcard dealers and collectors from throughout New England. The club currently hosts three meetings and one show each year at the Spellman Museum, all with free admission.
About Kathy Alpert
Kathy has been fascinated by ephemera since she was a child, when she discovered vintage postcards and Fortune Magazines in her grandfather’s New Hampshire barn. Today, her collection includes not only postcards and magazines, but photography, sheet music, advertising, trade cards, fruit crate labels, and matchbooks. A writer, designer, and photographer, she ran Alpert Communications, a PR and marketing agency during the 90s. In 2001, she launched the PostMark Press greeting card line, later licensing her work. Today, she creates collections of postcards and ephemera for research institutions.
