Kintsugi Workshop - The Japanese Art of Repairing Pottery
Wednesday, November 136:30—8:30 PMWatertown Savings Bank Room (1st floor)Watertown Free Public Library123 Main St, Watertown, MA, 02472
Join us for a hands-on beginner-friendly kintsugi workshop led by local artist Tad Murao!
Kintsugi embraces the philosophy of wabi-sabi, highlighting "imperfections" with metal powders and transforming your broken piece into a unique piece of art.
In this 2-hour workshop, you will:
- Explore the history and philosophy of kintsugi
- Learn basic modern kintsugi repair techniques
- Repair a broken ceramic piece with step-by-step guidance
Due to curing time, we'll be using a fast-drying epoxy, allowing you to take your creation home at the end. We advise against using repaired pieces with food.
Please bring:
- One broken ceramic piece (no more than 4 pieces, repairable within 10 inches, please do not bring family heirlooms or sentimental pieces)
- Container large enough to hold the repaired piece for safe transport
Please note that pieces not meeting these requirements may not be finished during the workshop. If you are unsure about whether your piece is suitable for the workshop, please email us with a description and photo of the piece you wish to fix at kintsugi.boston@gmail.com. Adults only. Limited spaces available!
