Learn the Laser Cutter

Tuesday, November 57:00—8:00 PMHatch Makerspace20 Summer St, Watertown, MA, 02472

This is the initial, required training to use the Hatch laser cutter.
You will learn the basics of setting up a job, safety considerations, acceptable materials, and some troubleshooting. This is the first step in becoming an independent user of the machine.
Your visit may not leave time to complete a personal project but you are welcome to bring files and materials with you.

This workshop will not show you how to design a project; we offer other services and drop-in times to help with the design process.

Supervised prints
After this initial training session, you will be able to visit Hatch anytime during open hours to work with the laser cutter.
Your next 4 laser cutter visits are called "supervised prints" and are part of the training process. A Hatch staff member or trained volunteer will look over your materials and all of your settings to make sure that they are safe, accurate, and appropriate for the laser cutter. You may then run your laser cutter print, and the staff member will initial and date that visit on your training record.

Completed training record
1 Learn the Laser Cutter Training plus 4 Supervised Prints add up to a completed Laser Cutter Training Record, granting you independent use of the machine.
Hatch staff will still need to ask you about your project and log you into the laser cutter computer before you begin.

You must be 16 or older to be trained and use the laser cutter independently.

There are no longer enough available spaces for further registration for this event.
